The Spokane Arts Commission announces an open call of nominations for the 2009 City of Spokane Arts Awards. The 18th Annual Arts Awards will be presented in six categories during a public meeting of Spokane City Council
Individuals, organizations, and businesses are encouraged to nominate candidates for these awards. Just explain how your nominee meets the guidelines for the appropriate category. Use the following guidelines to help us understand why your nominee deserves an Arts Award:
INDIVIDUAL ARTIST (Visual, performing, literary, etc. all eligible)
- Consistent quality of artistic work
- Commitment to community - gives of self/of work
- Visibility - sheds positive spotlight on Spokane artists
- Serves as a role model for youth/other artists
ARTS ORGANIZATION
- Consistent production of quality work
- Works to improve artistic quality
- Expands local horizons
- Gives back to the community for the benefit of others
- Presents innovative projects
- Audience expansion/outreach
- Sets and achieves goals
INDIVIDUAL BENEFACTOR
- Consistently gives of time and/or money
- Involvement has made a difference
- Involvement results in involvement/support of others
- Assumes leadership role
BUSINESS BENEFACTOR Varied kinds of support
- Consistent high level or recent increase in support
- Consistent support to arts community at large
- Encourages employees/members to participate in the arts
- Demonstrated innovative or creative ways to support the arts
ARTS IN EDUCATION PROGRAM
- For achievement in use of the arts in education (Nominations for this award may include individuals, or programs within particular public, private schools, or school districts)
- High level of commitment to students
- High standards for academic excellence
- Regularly & consistantly inspires artistic advancement
- Important influence in the lives of many students
ARTS COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP (Thankless Martyr Award)
- Arts organizational staff or community volunteer other than a donor.
- Significant & notable contributions of personal energy & self for the betterment of the Spokane arts community
- Serves as catalyst for positive action in the arts community
- Provides high degree of focus & commitment
- Individual frequently the one who gets the job done, often behind the scenes
- Exhibits strong principles & dedication to the concepts of strengthening, transforming & growing the arts in Spokane
